Introducing Label View in IDP for Document Labeling and Review

Starting on December 22nd, we are releasing Label View – a reimagined way to organize and manage labels and information within documents in IDP. In this blog post, we will walk you through all of the new functionality available with Label View.

What's Changing in IDP?

Designed to present labels and extracted data to users through a structured and unified interface, Label View offers a new, information-centric experience for the document labeling and review workflow. To create this user experience, we have built several new features into IDP that are only supported for Label View:

Label Requirements

When labeling or analyzing a document, it is often important to identify a minimum, maximum, or range of entities for a specific label. Currently in IDP, there is no user guidance or enforcement for following these label requirements within a document. Now, label requirements are defined during IDP configuration and users are presented with specific guidance for each label. Additionally, if all label requirements are not met and a user attempts to mark a document as Reviewed, a warning message will also appear to remind users about any remaining label requirements.

Label Hierarchies and Group Management

Until now, only one-dimensional groups of labels were supported for labeling in IDP. One or more labels from each group could then be applied to entities within a given document. Now, hierarchies are supported within label groups. This additional flexibility allows for more complex, nested label structures that enhance the quality of data produced from document labeling and extraction in our platform.

(Nested Label Hierarchical Representation)

In addition to supporting more complex label hierarchies, Label View also now features label group and sub-group management. Label groups are collections of labels with either a flat or nested hierarchical structure. For specific projects with Label Group Management enabled, users can create or delete additional instances of a label group and create or delete sub-components of a label group. Like individual labels, label groups can have label requirements defined and enforced.

Drag and Drop Labeling

Currently, labeling document items in IDP requires users to manually click and assign labels from a list of available label values. With drag and drop labeling, users can click and drag an entity within the document and drop it under a label value on the left-hand side of the screen. This action will then automatically apply that label to the entity from the document.

Block View Toggle

Label View was built to provide users with a new way to understand and manage the labels for a document, but Block View is still a valuable and efficient mode in IDP to quickly view if multiple labels are applied to the same block or filter for specific label values across a block type. Users can now easily toggle between Label View and Block View to change their labeling experience at any time. Any changes applied to labels or blocks in one view will be automatically updated in the other view.

Who Does This Impact?

Label View will be available as part of the platform configuration for IDP software-as-a-service (SaaS) and private deployment customers. If applicable to your workflow, our team will be in contact with you to discuss configuring Label View based on your desired specifications.
